Jhane Barnes - New Designs for Holiday and Resort

I've just added my Resort collection to my online store. Colorful and festive, these are perfect if you have an upcoming trip to warmer climes for the holidays.

Please take a look at three Resort designs that I feel best illustrate my design philosophy. I like to either bring people together to take a closer look or to comment, or to have you experience something different each time you wear the garment.

Consider, for example, Polygraph (pictured here). It has more going on than immediately meets the eye. It starts as a four color double woven fabric (that's the dark stripe that looks like a polygraph). Then the fabric is sent to the finisher for pushing and pulling. That is what creates the side to side waving of the yarns. The next step is to send the fabric to the printer where a paper with a print design is pressed with heat onto the fabric. (Remember iron-on decals for T-shirts? This is a commercial version!). The print will stick only to the wavy horizontal pushed yarns.

For me, it had as much design work as three separate shirts! For you, there are layers of design that will reveal themselves to you over time, as your eyes become familiar with them, and how they interact.

Thatch is also special. It is a photo-realistic print shirt utilizing millions of colors. I love designing with millions of colors (who wouldn't!), but until the late 1990's that wasn't a possibility. Today, most people have ink jet printers in their homes. Imagine, then, a commercial sized ink jet printer capable of printing rolls of fabric. The inks are specially formulated for fabric and are even more washable and colorfast than traditional dyes used in screen printing. The primary advantage of printing with so many colors is that I am able to achieve the detail of a photograph, making the finished product look textural and dimensional. And, in addition to the unparalleled quality of the fabrics, "Thatch" uses 40 times less water (putting no chemicals into the environment) than traditional methods. These pieces are usually my favorites because they, truly, challenge my brain with limitless possibilities!

And look at Paisley! It is an absolutely wild shirt that I just love.

A special note for holiday shoppers: if you want delivery by December 24, make sure you place your order by 5pm (Eastern time) on December 20. Our warehouse will be closed December 21 through January 3, to give our employees time with their families.

However you spend the holidays, I hope you enjoy them wearing my shirts!
