Jhane in a Math Textbook

Imagine flipping through a math book and seeing Jhane Barnes. Sound surprising? Actually it shouldn't be, considering how much of Jhane's design inspiration comes from mathematics. The book, Algebra II: Explorations and Applications features a chapter on Jhane entitled "Sequences and Series; Fractals for Fashions." It explores the relationship between mathematics, fashion and interior design.

Some examples of Jhane's designs that are "inspired" by mathematical theories are Trilobyte, Koch curve snowflake and Mandelbrot cloud. Jhane says, "Instead of thinking of patterns only in a visual sense, I now break them down to their simplest elements and think of them mathematically." The book is available from McDougal Littell.
