For
the first collection, we designed several different types of throws ranging
from knit throws made from our unique plaited intarsia sweater fabrics,
to woven throws created from our exclusive stretch woven sweater fabric,
and finally richly textured hand-woven throws.
The stretch woven and plaited
intarsia knit throws are 72" X 42" including a subtly contrasting
5" border with mitered corners. The hand-woven throws measure a generous
46" x 72" including 5" long fringe.
For
the designs of both the stretch woven and plaited intarsia knits we used
the juxtaposition of two related patterns/textures to create the final
throws. (Click on the thumbnails at right for larger views.)
The stretch woven technology is an exclusive
creation of Jhane's. The fabric is woven with Lycra and rayon chenille
creating a cuddly, soft throw that is luxurious with a weighty drape.
The
plaited intarsia fabric uses a new technology that combines elements of
both knitting and weaving. The knitting machines have a warp and a weft
as in woven fabrics, enabling us to create patterns with 4x's as many
colors as a regular knitting machine. The colors are knit vertically and
can also be knit side to side as in regular knitting. The combination
of these two methods produces a fascinating interlaced effect.
The handwovens are literally woven by hand in
Bloomington, Indiana. They use thick, luscious yarns many of which can
only be used on handlooms. They are also finished and knotted by hand.
